How to open rpt file without crystal report

It has been mentioned several places that when you create a brand new report, you need to uncheck "Save with data". Then, save the report first, before you run it for the first time. I have done both of these steps and have ran the report within Crystal Reports which runs beautifully and all data populates correctly. The error message I get right when it opens the file states the following:.

I am finding conflicting statements. It sounds simple but the RPT file wont do it. Does anyone know how I can get this task done? I have wrote software which opened and printed a RPT file before but the idea behind this is to allow users to point to and open a simple RPT file and print it to paper or pdf without the need of having to open it through a software application other than the viewer itself.

Can this not be done at all? And then what is the point and purpose of a viewer then? Most viewers that I have heard of do not allow refreshing of the data. I know that you can create a Visual Studio app or use one of SAP's products that allow refreshing of data. Which SDK and viewer are you using to develop this?

Go into the enterprise repositrory, log in; go to the sub folder wish and can drag and drop the report from your windows explorer; then need to make sure shared data source is in place.

The only way that I can use the sql from any of the over 1, reports that I have built over the years is to send a old report to them and they will extract the sql statement and send it back to me.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I think I have heard of third party solutions that will extract information out of the report file. But another way is to get a trial version of CR and work real fast before the trial runs out.
